After seeing Thomas Barbéy’s works unlike many people it didn’t interest me what the technique behind the photograph is. I simply enjoyed the metaphors and illusions that he has made come alive. Barbéy’s surrealistic manipulations are not only works of retouching and airbrushing – he also sticks the negatives together, photographs them, uses other techniques to reach the concept vision he had in his mind first – but few (like myself) are able to resist the gripping illusion.
Thomas says it’s not the technique that matters to him but all the likes and kudos he gets. “I would like to think that the pictures can be appreciated without any real knowledge of their technical virtuosity“ says Barbéy.
