With the beautiful escapism collection that Valentino presented for SS15 - pyschedelic floral motifs, graphic scarf prints and an ethereal under the sea exploration it is without surprise to see what I consider to be the most beautiful campaign for summer. Set on what appears to be a deserted beach landscape, creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli (photographers included) decided to enlist a few new faces on for their new brilliant and fantasy-like campaign. Shot in Tuscany by newcomer photographer, Michal Pudelka, the ethereal images include a cast of up-and-coming models Vanessa Moody, Maartje Berhoef, Grace Simmons, Clementine Deraedt and Hedvig Palm as they are washed ashore a sandy beach. The collection was inspired by travels in Italy during the 18th century.
Michael Pudelka (who is 22 years old) perfectly captured the dreamy Valentino aesthetic, giving models a flora and fauna twist as they posed in water in delicate gowns and climbed trees in an enchanted forest. The shot took place in the woods of Punta Alauscany on Tuscany and the young unseen Michal Pudelka was chosen by the Valentino designers to do the shooting. They thought that they’d underscored the importance of supporting a younger generation. This was his first international campaign
In one visual, the models are pictured submerged in water – some with just faces showing, whilst two matching Valentino Spring/Summer 15 gowns are drenched in water with the models seemingly floating on the surface. It is mermaid like with one of the images creating an etheral washed up mermaid – with both models relaxing on the beach.
