Shrimps is one of my new favorite brands on the market. I’m hooked! A newly launched faux-fur fashion label from the young London-based designer, Hannah Weiland. With a background in History of Art and a diploma in textile design from the London College of Fashion, she takes her inspiration from the witticisms of modern art and a playful engagement with pattern and texture.

Her brand is built around carefully sourced fabrics that emphasise colour, Shrimps has created a range of beautifully crafted pieces, perfect for the forward-thinking customer with a taste for the fun in fashion. A great British brand that captures British humour, creativity and innovative fashion.

For AW14, Shrimps predominantly draws inspiration from a British childhood. The collage artwork of Eduardo Paolozzi, British cartoons, childhood memories and doodles of daisies – which have been translated onto the lining of the collection, are seen through the colours, the accessories and RTW collection.

Colour remains key with a heady combination inspired by the collage work of Eduardo Paolozzi. Pastels, classics and pop-brights combine throughout the collection; in powder blue, strawberry and cream pink, as well as a rich navy and a brilliant bright pink flame. Emphasising the colour combinations are the ‘Shrimps’ Breton stripes, once again featured on the coats in a variety of new forms. Childhood memories play into the collection, with the ‘Ivana’ scarf inspired by a traditional British striped school scarf, the ‘Pluto’ collar in keeping with the Popeye’s sailor collar and a new ‘Shrimps’ mascot – ‘Lenny the Lion’, inspired by the ventriloquist Terry Hall’s puppet ‘Lenny the Lion’, whose catchphrase
was “Aw, don’t embawass me”. A British brand inspired by a British childhood.

For Spring Summer she has collaborated with Poplin and Sophia Webster to create a series of fun pyjamas (which can totally be worn during the day) and the most dream worthy shoes. The pearl details are my favorite aspect of the collection.
