Fred Butler is an accessories designer which was the result of a circuitous route taken from studying fashion, interning in set design and freelance propmaking. What are you working on at the moment? Everything is top secret Im afraid……… something big launching in September!
What do you recommend as the ultimate ‘must-have’ for this season? A funny phone case. It’s a great talking point between strangers!
What was your favourite show? My favourite collection is Blumarine because they have found and used my dream shiny spectrum fabric. It’s the ultimate surface- it’s very exciting!
Who are your favourite artists/designers at the moment?
Fave Designers: Bethan Laura Wood for accessories, Agi & Sam for menswear. Craig Lawrence for womenswear.
Fave artists: Chrissie Abbott, Jim Stoten, Verity Keefe, Julie Verhoeven.
What makes you happy?
Friends, family, sunshine, music, making work and having opportunities to share it.
What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
Music videos! I put on Vevo and watch the latest releases. Just recently I’ve had Jessie Ware’s ‘Running’ directed by Kate Moross on repeat.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I’m really happy in London but I certainly wouldn’t mind a second home near my friends in NYC….and a third somewhere warm #dreamworld.
What’s your fave hang out in London?
Record shops: Music, boys and escapism from fashion- Bliss!
What was your latest epiphany?
That life has no dress-rehearsal so you’ve gotta live it……………… a sentiment spoken by Andrew Logan in his interview on Stylelikeu.
What would you eat for your last meal?
Wow! A sunday roast with my extended family- everyone makes a different pudding, its out of control!
What makes you laugh?
Obscure observations in life, when you see quirks in human nature. That and the puerile sense of humour I share with my ridiculous friends!
What’s on your bedside table?
Two 60′s mushroom lamps, a cube light that changes the colours of the rainbow, a baby photo of my nephew and niece who were born on the same day, the latest issues of Vogue, i-D, itsnicethat, and whatever book I’m reading at the moment. Right now I’m reading ‘City Boy: My Life in New York during the 1960s and 1970s’.
How would you describe your personal style?
Colourful, cosmic and fun.
What is the last exhibition you went to?
Jean Paul Goude retrospective at the Museum of Decorative Arts, Louves, Paris.
What do you never leave the house without?
You can wear three designers for the rest of your life. Who would they be?
Kansai Yamamoto, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Threeasfour.
Your favourite fruit?
I’m a mango fiend- totally tropical!
